We teach children one-to-one over video. Keeping them safe is the first responsibility of everyone who works here, ahead of teaching anything about money.

Our commitment

• Every child has the right to be safe, listened to and taken seriously
• Concerns are acted on the same day, not filed for later
• Anyone can raise a concern — parent, child, teacher or member of the public
• A child will never be in trouble for telling us something

Our teachers

• All teachers hold an Enhanced DBS certificate before teaching any child
• References and teaching qualifications are checked
• Every teacher completes safeguarding training and refreshes it annually
• Teachers work under a code of conduct that governs how they interact with children

How live classes run

• Classes run on an encrypted video platform with a waiting room
• The teacher admits the child; nobody else can join uninvited
• A parent or guardian should be at home and reachable throughout
• Teachers never contact a child privately — all communication goes through the parent’s account
• Teachers never arrange to meet a child outside a scheduled class
• Teachers never ask a child to keep anything secret from their parent

Recording

Classes are not recorded. There is no recording of your child to store, share or lose, and nobody watches a class back afterwards. If that ever changes we will tell parents before it does, and this policy will say who can see recordings and how long they are kept.

What we ask of parents

• Be at home and contactable while your child is in a class
• Set your child up somewhere shared rather than a bedroom where possible
• Tell us anything that would help the teacher support your child
• Tell us straight away if anything concerns you

If we have a concern

1. The teacher records what they saw or heard, in the child’s own words where possible, and reports it the same day
2. Our Designated Safeguarding Lead reviews it
3. Where a child may be at risk of harm, we contact the local authority children’s services and, if needed, the police
4. We normally tell parents — unless doing so would put the child at greater risk, which is the one situation where we would not

Our Designated Safeguarding Lead

We have a named Designated Safeguarding Lead who reviews every concern raised. To reach them, email info@smartmonies.co.uk marked for the Designated Safeguarding Lead — it goes straight to them.

Schools, local authorities and organisations who need the name and direct contact details for their own records can request them by email and we will provide them.

Concerns about a member of our team

If your concern is about a Smartmonies teacher or staff member, email a director at info@smartmonies.co.uk, marked for their attention. We will act on it immediately and, where the threshold is met, refer to the Local Authority Designated Officer.

Reviewing this policy

We review this policy every year, and immediately after any incident. This version was published in August 2026 and is next due for review in August 2027.
